EBC develops Polish teachers' and trainers' entrepreneurial skills

Passionate about the region logoEBC's Chief Executive Barbara McClennan travelled to Poland to help Polish teachers and third sector trainers develop their skills in developing entrepreneurship skills in young people.

Representatives of EBC's Polish partners show off their finished products Barbara spent a week training 10 Polish teachers and third sector trainers how to deliver a range of enterprise activities to young people as well as explaining how to get businesses from all sectors involved in developing entrepreneurial skills in the classroom and in their projects.

Challenged to create jot pads for a niche market, EBC's Polish partners came up trumps! The training was followed up with a study visit to the North East by the 'trainees' when they saw EBC and its business partners 'in action' delivering the innovative and creative enterprise and work related learning activities for young people for which EBC is renowned across the region.

The Polish visitors worked along side some of EBC's business partners to further develop their skills in delivering enterprise education 'EBC style' before returning to their homeland to put their learning into practice.   The project was highlighted in the national Way2Go magazine.  To read the article click here

A month later the he Polish 'trainees' delivered five enterprise activity days in their own schools and youth groups in Gdansk. Poland, based on EBC's model.  Barbara then travelled to Poland again to carry out an evaluation of the project with the RC Foundation and participants. The organisers of the pilot project - funded by the European Union hope that it could be rolled out across Poland's Pomorski region.

The project was organised by the Gdansk-based RC Foundation - the Regionalne Centrum Informacji i Wspomagania Organizacji Pozarzadowych.  The Foundation is a Regional Infomation and Support Centre for non-governmental organisations serving the Pomorski region of Poland.

Potential Polish Partnerships

Passionate about enterprise logoBarbara's visit was organised through a partnership with the RC Foundation based in Gdansk. which has been operating since 1993, mainly in the Pomorskie Region.

On a national level, together with over a dozen organisations, the Foundation created the 'Net for Support' of NGOs* called SPLOT, implementing many projects both in Poland and abroad. The RC Foundation's supports NGOs* and social leaders in building civic society through information, advice and training as well initiating partnerships to solve social problems through local development.

* WEB EDITOR'S NOTE: NGO stands for Non-governmental organisations - the term used in Poland for the third sector.  In Poland there are three key sectors:

  • Public - local, regional and national government bodies
  • Business - the private sector, profit making organisations
  • NGOs - non-governmental organisations, or the third sector, - although many NGOs have been historically set up by the public sector.
