EBC's Essential Steps to Employability - year 2

EBC's efforts in supporting people to develop new skills and gain qualifications which improve their employment prospects have been officially recognised with a prestigious award.
Our organisation is now the holder of the Good Practice Award in Case Management from Tyne and Wear City Region after an independent assessor evaluated the work we do to re-engage people with multiple barriers to learning and employment. This is the latest of numerous awards EBC has received for its work. To find more visit our special Awards Page.
The Good Practice Award has been developed by City Region to recognise examples of good practice in the delivery of employment and skills projects. The overall aim of City Region's good practice framework is to provide a tool to identify as objectively as possible, those services and projects that are delivering good practice in employment and skills services. Within the framework good practice is defined as:
Projects and organisations delivering high quality services, that are effective in delivering positive employment and skills outcomes, in line with the principles and requirements of the Employability Framework.

EBC has delivered the second year of its latest project for adults - Essential Steps to Employability - thanks to continued funding from Sunderland City Council's Working Neighbourhoods Fund. The project is just one of the city's many Just the Job activities to support people back into work.

Year 1 saw dozens of people securing entry lelve qualifications. For many it was their first ever qualification. For others their involvement with EBC saw their first engagement in learning and training for many years.

You can see for yourself our clients learning by doing by visiting our Photo Gallery.
Year 2 of Essential Steps to Employability sees an increased emphasis on delivery of accredited learning to those we are working with - equipping them with vital new skills and qualifications as well as the self belief and confidence they need as they take their next steps back into employment, education or training.

The qualifications are carefully selected from a range on offer through the NOCN (National Open College Network) Skills Towards Enabling Progression (Step-Up) suite of qualifications.

They are devised to progress learners into further learning or employment. The use of the approach to learning allows EBC to create individualised learning programmes tailored to participants needs whilst enabling learners to achieve a national qualification and improve their opportunities for progression.
The qualifications are particularly designed to:
- Engage and motivate learners to identify their individual and personal strengths for progression.
- Provide learning opportunities that enable participants to realise their potential to progress further in learning.
- Provide information and advice to learners on possible progression routes
- Recognise learning achievement through NOCN credits
- Enable learners to develop their literacy and/or numeracy skills
