Qualifications and Experience

Iain, a city-based social entrepreneur, has been involved with EBC since 1998 when - under the auspices of his own consultancy company - he put together a 'funding rescue package' for its forerunner.   Over a number of years he built up the EBC brand and its staffing numbers and has been instrumental in raising hundreds of thousands of pounds to support EBC's work with young people and adults.   

He supported the Chief Executive in setting up EBC as a charitable company and creating its current governance structure. becoming EBC's Contracts and Fundraising Manager in 2004. 

With EBC well established as a regional deliverer of enterprise education and work related learning Iain left the company in 2008 to further develop his own consultancy - I W Kay (Consultancy Services) Limited - which he had set up in 1995 following three years employment as a project manager with Northumbria Police.  He was previouslt Manager of Pennywell Comminity Business and personnel manage rfor Project North East (now PNE Group). 

Through its Freshstart programme his company specialises in offering training and education opportunities to offenders and those at risk of offending.   In addition his consultancy offers bespoke service packages to third sector organisations including fundraising, project development, business planning, monitoring and evaluation.

He holds a MSc in Systemic Organisation and Management, Certificate in Fundraising, Diploman in Management Studies and BSc in Applied Physics and is a Common Purpose graduate. 

Iain, a Fellow of the Royal Society for the Arts, is also a member of the Instutute of Directors, Institute of Fundraising, Chartered Institute of Marketing and North East Chamber of Commerce.

Iain is Trustee of several regional and local organisations and also represents the third sector on several city and sub regional bodies.  He is also a governor of two local schools andserved as a non-Executive Director of Newcastle International Airport when he was a local councillor.

Responsibilities and areas of expertise

Iain is EBC's main consultant for a number of special work projects including fundraising, monitoring and contract compliance.

Iain is an expert in all aspects of fundraising including the complex European funding streams, as well as contract management, monitoring and compliance - now his key role as a freelance special service provider.

To support EBC's work in delivering City and Guilds NVQs Iain works on a freelance basis as a member of EBC's team of qualified assessors.
