The Language of Leisure Schools Competition
C'est la!..... Hier ist es!..... Aqui es!
EBC partnered up with the Regional Language Network North East to run an exciting new competition designed to inspire young people to study a modern foreign language.
Ten teams of pupils from across the region took part in The Language of Leisure, thanks to support from some of the North East's key tourism and leisure attractions and businesses.

The winners were Harton Technology College (pictured right), who worked with South Shields Customs House to create a presentation on the venue for a French audience. They won a trophy and £500 to be spent on language resources for their school.
Runners up were Houghton Kepier School (pictured left) with pupils working with The Sage, Gateshead, top create a Spanish presentation on that venue. They received a trophy and £250 for their school.
Third place, and a trophy and £150 cheque, went to Ryton Comprehensive (pictured right) for their French presentation on Gateshead International Stadium.

The Language of Leisure competition saw school pupils challenged to work with a business supporter from the hospitality, leisure, travel and tourism sector to develop a marketing campaign for their business supporter's organisation which promoted that business to international visitors.
The winning school received a cash prize to spend on resources for its language department. Winners were selected after showcasing their work at a regional event
The Language of Leisure regional competition was open to Year 9 pupils from across the region.
Schools and their business supporters were assisted in the challenge by Durham University and Sunderland University undergraduates with specialist language skills.

As well as giving pupils an exciting opportunity to gain an insight into the importance and value of modern foreign language skills in the workplace, EBC's Language of Leisure competition:
- Supported the development of partnerships between businesses and schools.
- Supported schools in accessing and exciting range of on-line resources.
