Qualifications and Experience |
Michael joined EBC as he prepared to enter his third year of study with Sunderland University. He is currently studying for a BSc in Web and Multimedia Computing.
However, Michael has been involved in the work of EBC throughout 2009 as a volunteer business supporter - bringing his expertise in ICT to a range of our programmes through the designing of interactive, engaging learning activities for young people. He is also one of dozens of adults who are supporting EBC's ementoring programme.
He has joined EBC to support the delivery of its latest programme - Essential Steps to Employability - funded by Sunderland City Council through the Working Neighbourhoods Fund.
Before returning to education Michael worked at B & Q. His flair for ICT, including networking and systems, were largely developed 'on the job' during his time with both London Electricity and a local Sunderland company and he is now seeking to formalise those skills through his degree course.
Michael, who has a Level 3 NVQ in Business Administration, is also a volunteer trustee of a local charity with lead responsibility for ICT training and developmemt of its electronic village hall.
EBC will be supporting Michael to gain an appropriate teaching qualification which will assist him in his work with particpants of the Essential Steps to Employabilty programme.

| Responsibilities and areas of expertise |
As a mature student at Sunderland University, who has re-entered the world of education, Michael brings a wealth of life experience which will help him to understand the barriers facing clients being targetted through our Essential Steps to Employability programme. Among the clients are some of society's most vulnerable people and Michael will be developing new skills and building their confidence and self belief.

Michael is part of the EBC staff team charged with delivering Essential Steps to Employability project, funded by Sunderland City Council through the Working Neighbourhoods Fund. In that role his key contacts include the City of Sunderland WNF team, NECA, NERAF and Norcare as well as other third sector organisations working with vulnerable adults who need support to develop their employability skills and to take their first steps towards employment, education or training.
Other key contacts include other project officers in other WNF-funded projects, the Open College Network and NCFE awarding bodies.
